women and science

Now I will talk about a scientist who made greats innovations in Science, and about a woman that do not conform with the stereotypes of the times. I think she is an inspiration because she made a great contribution to science and proves that the female sex is as capable as the male sex for this task. She is Maria Salomea Sklodowska-Curie, better known as Madame Curie. She was born in Varsovia in 1867 and died in 1934. She was the first person in the world who obtains two Nobel prices in two different areas: physique in 1903 and chemistry in 1911. She discovered two elements: polonium and radium. Her work in the radioactivity theory was very important, and she was the one who named the “radioactivity”, when the investigations in the area were incipient. Because of her brilliant mind, and against the mood of the times, Madame Curie was the first woman who work as professor in the Paris University. She is an inspiration for me as student and I think that she can be an inspiration for other women too, we – the female sex – are as capable as men and we must be pleasure to contribute to the science.
